THE REVIEW

To myself: ""mmm, in a little while we're off, back down south, it's going to be quite a trip, but I'll need a special album, one that makes me think about what I'm leaving behind, Perugia, a crazy city, completely out of its mind, toxic, full of foreigners, or rather, full of Spaniards, and damn, how many hangovers in the center with the Spaniards, every evening is a night trip, and what awaits me, the little village in Calabria, deserted, lacking tourism, an arid climate that drives you to stay in the water until your skin looks like it's aged a hundred years, but also the trumpets by the sea, and finally her, the magnificent one."

To find the right album, I searched through Split, thinking of Natas but then my eye landed on Natas/Viaje a 800 Split 1999, and just reading the band's name I thought: my sixth sense is itching more than usual.... THERE IT IS!

Viaje a 800, or Journey at 800. The album in question is "Estampida de Trombones", and it has everything I need: the red sun riff, the raw drums, the independent hot-headed bass, and the tendency towards psychedelia that makes them experimental and pushes them out of that terrible circle of Kyuss clones, the excellent production instead of the "dirty" Kyuss, reminds me of the early Queens of the Stone Age. Let's say that they greatly contribute to keeping this spectacular genre alive (stonerrrrrock!!!), and then no worries if I listen to "Luto" and it makes me want to cry, it's okay, I listen to "Diós Astronómo" which reminds me of the effects of absinthe drinking and I recover. In short, it's perfect for the occasion, it's the one, I couldn't have done better. It has the Calabrian/desert/stoner sounds combined with Perugian psychedelia and the Spanish singing (to stay on theme), which, initially I disliked as a language, but thanks to Natas and especially to the (and the) ERASMUS it has grown on me! The jellyfish on the cover remind me that I will definitely be stung, but no matter, I'll have someone pee on me....

Estampida de Trombones, a road trip album, preferably city to sea (well accompanied I recommend, stoner requires THC to be truly appreciated).

...just kidding earlier, I don't drink absinthe!

Buenas vacaciones a todos!!!
