The Vesania with "Distractive Killusions" have reached their third album. Certainly, originality has never been and will never be their strong point, but despite this, this work holds its own in a dignified manner, both in terms of songwriting and execution.
The Polish combo is devoted to symphonic black metal, with strong influences from Dimmu Borgir, but also Emperor, especially at the keyboard level. However, the creation of atmosphere is well balanced by the very aggressive guitars in the Behemoth style and the great work of Daray (drummer of Vader) behind the drums. Orion, singer and guitarist in Vesania, is none other than the bassist of the already mentioned Behemoth: from this, one can easily guess why the guitars sound so similar to those of Nergal. On a first, introductory listen, one risks dismissing this band without hesitation, categorizing them as yet another clone of Borgir and company. However, going deeper, this "Distractive Killusions" holds some surprises; great space is given to Siegmar's malevolent keyboard, which clashes with the granite guitars of Orion and Valeo, which rarely abandon the rhythms and overshadow Heinrich's bass. Orion himself also offers us a decent performance at the microphone, proving himself a versatile musician. Finally, the lyrics are interesting with predominantly philosophical themes.
Fans of symphonic black metal can, therefore, be happy to come across albums like this one because Vesania have decided to remain faithful to the canons of the genre, demonstrating their ability to write, play, and produce it excellently.
