Crazy, surreal, unsettling… brilliant.
Words aren’t enough to describe the guitarist/composer Emiliano Sicilia, more than ever determined to break down every musical barrier and bring to life the “New Reality” entirely shaped by the keys of his blazing 7-string guitar.
Born in Milan on September 11, 1977, Emiliano developed a passion for music and guitar at the age of ten. From 1988, he dedicated six years to private study of classical and flamenco guitar, alongside electric guitar. After attaining full mastery of his instrument, Emiliano decided to focus on private teaching: from age 17 to 24, he held Rock Fusion guitar courses, pausing them only in view of his final university exams.
After graduating in History and Philosophy and with ten years of live experience in various cover bands, he finally decided to give life to his solo project, conceived to encapsulate different musical genres within a framework of sounds inspired by the most visionary horror, sci-fi, and cyberspace films.
The debut CD “Devotion, Materialize” is currently in production since November 2005 at the renowned Moon House Studio in Milan, always a staple of Emiliano’s musical and professional activity. After distributing the promo “The New Reality,” containing four instrumental tracks from the album, Emiliano was contacted by the famous Mantra guitarist and founder of the Horus Music label, Gianluca Galli (www.gianlucagalli.com), who committed to produce and distribute the album in Italy (Audioglobe), UK (Cargo), France (Musea), Scandinavia (Lion Music), Spain/Portugal (Heavencross), Belgium/Netherlands and Luxembourg (Rock Inc.), Germany/Austria/Switzerland (SPV), and the United States (Guitar9).
The album’s store release is scheduled for April/May 2006. The artist truly couldn’t hold back any ideas during the writing of the tracks, for which he managed all instrumental parts and every aspect of programming, assisted by the skilled hands of his friend/sound engineer Danilo 'Stonehenge' Di Lorenzo. “Devotion, Materialize” features a true sound mosaic of musical genres sometimes oppositional: metal, ethnic, house, funk, industrial, electronic, flamenco, country, folk, and blues are just some of the styles you might encounter while listening to the album!
Emiliano’s eclectic personality manifests from the opening of the solid ‘Cyber Room’ (reserved for a disturbing chainsaw!) and pervades all the track structures in a crescendo of surprises and shifts in time and style so radical and well-executed that they literally leave you speechless. Initially designed to be an entirely instrumental project, “Devotion, Materialize” was enriched by the presence of a group of completely different voices: the guitarist himself sang on some of the album’s tracks, alongside Danilo and his friend Pamela, the diabolical singer Cristiano Re from Relaypse (www.relaypse.com), and the screamer Pier Paolo Balice from Lawbreakers (www.lawbreakers.it).
“If I had to give a name to the genre I’ve interpreted, I would call it Horror Metal… obviously referring to the album’s predominant moments” comments Emiliano, always a fan and super-expert of horror cinema of all times and countries, as well as a collaborator with a long list of sites and portals dedicated to the beloved film genre.
“I recorded the guitar parts after laying them out and processing them without having any idea of the effects I would have at my disposal… I’m still surprised now listening back to some songs! Most of the solos present were totally improvised in the studio” continues the uncontrollable guitarist, extremely eager to showcase his production and talent to the world, declaring himself open to any kind of collaboration or project, both in performance and composition.
Directly from his words and the tracks he has signed, you can identify a wide range of musical influences, which still enrich him stylistically and stimulate him to achieve new results: Steve Vai, Allan Holdsworth, Shawn Lane, Pat Martino, and Brent Mason among the guitarists, Massive Attack, Diva Destruction, Nine Inch Nails, Prodigy, Bjork, Ministry, Bauhaus, Slipknot, Rammstein, Static-X, Meshuggah, Mudvayne, Rob Zombie, Type O Negative, SYL, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, and Apoptgyma Berserk among the bands in the international rock/metal scene.
Ultimately, a complete, unpredictable, and absolutely extraordinary artist… let yourself be conquered by his unstoppable and very original New Reality!!
