Year 2007, Italian rock is called Verdena. Three years ago, when the beautiful "Il Suicidio del Samurai" came out, Verdena proved, if there was still any doubt, to be one of the best Italian bands. The rock/grunge had matured and was preparing to explore new territories that included a certain psychedelic rock reminiscent of the 70s. "Requiem" is here to confirm this direction, but expands on it with new and significant changes. Requiem is a well-crafted album, yet at the same time, it sounds raw, it's a work that sweats rock! The sound has become darker, and the lyrics take on more meaning. There are two tracks that exceed 10 minutes: "Il Gulliver" and "Sotto Prescrizione Del Dottor Huxley". Psychedelic and lysergic atmospheres give shape to these two tracks, a rollercoaster of emotions, first angry, then calmer.

"Angie" reveals an unprecedented side of Verdena's personality; a semi-acoustic piece with echoes of Beatles-esque memories, just like "Trovami Un Modo Semplice Per Uscirne". "Don Calisto" and "Isacco Nucleare" are the most nervous tracks on the CD, two songs that echo the sound that was of "IL VILE" by Marlene Kuntz (continuing with the theme of Italian rock).
Another track worth noting is "Il Caos Strisciante"; this is a song where the two souls of Verdena, the more aggressive and the more melodic, coexist in perfect symbiosis. "Muori Delay" instead is a small tribute to Led Zeppelin.

With this fourth album, Verdena reaches complete maturity, fully utilizing the teachings of the sacred monsters of rock, managing to process it all with a touch of strong personality. They are ready even for the foreign market, as the album will be distributed outside of Italy as well. Requiem is an album I would recommend to everyone, even to those who have never believed in the band, they might find themselves proven wrong.  As for me, yet another confirmation.

"'Requiem' is an aberration of such atrocious dimensions, as to trigger homophobic tendencies among the most gastro-sensitive."

"'Requiem,' or (intentionally!) the death of that little healthy and genuine that remained in our 'beautiful' country."

This new work... seems more aggressive and less catchy. Not that it’s a flaw, on the contrary... I believe it turned out to be a dirty and fascinating album.

After the success of Il Suicidio del Samurai, Verdena did not veer towards something softer and more accessible, but rather increased the dose of electric guitars and revived the evocative melodies.

With this album, they demonstrate significant growth and prove to be one of the best bands on the Italian scene.

Verdena manage to unravel what is inside our souls, describing our lives with violence, madness but also sweetness.

"Requiem is a magnificent album, the pinnacle that Verdena can reach today."

"They are the future of Italian rock’n’roll. Why stay behind?"

This album, in our opinion, is the explosive product of Verdena’s latest experiences.

The lyrics are indeed wonderful: abstract just enough, effective, metaphoric, and as mentioned, ironic too.
