Verdena are playing at Goa Boa, I'm in Genoa, so I'm going to listen and watch.

It’s easy to notice when it's Verdena's turn because everyone who was uninterested in the stage, busy buying bracelets and bongs at the stalls, gathers under the stage. The person presenting the evening describes them as the best Italian rock band, which could spark one of those long discussions where everyone thinks they will emerge as the winner.
But maybe it’s better to talk about music.

I am definitely convinced to criticize their keyboardist or whatever you want to call him.
I'm not crazy; I have my reasons.
The other three members of the group seem united and before the concert, they seem to seek some intimacy without appearing on stage. Not him, he stays on stage until ten seconds before the start of the live (just enough time to go backstage and come back) as if he's not welcome in the band. The live begins (I think) with “Logorrea” from the new CD, and Verdena play really well, aided by fantastic drum sounds, a slight effect/delay on the vocals, and bass and guitar that make their mark both in sound and stage presence. The live continues with “Ovunque” from the first album and many songs from the new one, including “Luna,” “Elefante,” “Phantastica,” and other tracks (apologies for the memory lapses, it’s been a tough day).

The absence of the hit songs from the first album like “Valvonauta,” “Viba,” and “Ultranoia” is surprising, but considering the live performance must last an hour, I appreciate their choice of focus; the setlist is well-structured despite overlooking the past that-you're-sure-will-garner-approval.

I speak well of Verdena without considering the keyboardist a part of Verdena. He seems like a stage sound engineer who occasionally presses a keyboard, starts tracks, and even walks off the stage because he’s not needed for the song or, since he doesn’t know what to do, keeps the beat by tapping his hands on his legs. It’s truly sad, and I wonder how he can cope in front of so many people, knowing he’s not a full-fledged member of the band.

In conclusion, the performance overall is definitely positive; I enjoyed how they played, what they played, and their presence on stage. On the contrary, if it wasn’t already clear, I couldn't stand the keyboardist, a useless and embarrassing presence, in my opinion, to be left out of the future of the young Bergamascans.
