THE REVIEW

CARLO'S CLOSET:

I found this record inside a decaying box belonging to a former punker from the middle-Treviso-Montello area, on consignment from the now-mythical Carlo. In the same box where I found the Eidolon and Railhead (for those who remember) and since then, I haven't found anything of interest besides half a dozen vinyl, now an integral and lively part of my collection of records.

When I listened to Trial I was already deeply immersed in my personal post-hardcore rediscovery which resulted in a new sonic mentality, more integrated and radicalized, and an awkward method of guitar percussive technique on my Korina.

In 1987, post-hardcore as we know it today was still far off: no Fugazi, no scream and clear metal influences. Here there are the usual 2 names: Minor Threat and Husker Du, but in particular, I mention Rites Of Spring and Dag Nasty. With this work, Verbal Assault can consider themselves calmly on par with Piccotto and Smalley's band: a well-framed, emotional, and sufficiently virulent sound that manages to break out from that black hole that is hardcore punk; in short, a Dischord band without Dischord.
Unfortunately, this is the only Long Play made, and there are only a handful of EPs (still substantial like On).

Scared. Listen to Scared. DE_LINK_ESTERNO_
There aren't many such powerful tracks among these minor HC groups.
