I am attached to this album, and the highest rating I have given it is a sign of affection. I know well that musically Venom ends with the third album, but I have always credited Tony Dolan for having had great courage. He came from a band that nobody knows anymore (Atomkraft, who are they?) and took on the cross of Kronos, and well, poor guy, he did what he could (I believe he stuck a mouse down his throat to have the same growl...).
Back then, fans spat in his face and boycotted the concerts, but today, more than 15 years later, and with all the junk produced by post-Dolan Venom (see "Metal Black," everything really upside down), I must say that "Prime Evil" brings a lot of nostalgia. There are tracks that, listened to without the shadow of Kronos, are more than dignified, see the one that gives the album its title, "Parasite" (the opening would awaken the comatose), "Carnivorous" and the Sabbathian cover "Megalomania."
The review could also end here, also because the career of Dolan Demolition Man lasted the span of three albums and a collection of spectacular flops, after which he turned to cinema...
I recommend listening, pretend they are not Venom, but an honest loud English metal band from the late '80s with a great past still too present and a future that Grunge would have swept away. But this is also true for Metallica... so.
Honor to Tony Dolan, time has proved him right.
