THE REVIEW

I didn't expect there to be so few reviews of Venetian Snares on the site, despite his numerous works.

Well, his birth name is Aaron Funk and Funk he certainly does not make.

Back in 2001, as a great cat lover (like myself), he thought it well to dedicate a record to his beloved cats.

An average person, not knowing the artist and the proposed genre, would certainly think of something very emotional and/or sentimental... but no!

The first time I listened to it with my usual twisted brain, which some of you already know quite well, I thought: SHARP ELECTRONIC VIOLENCE EVERYWHERE!

Odd tempos in every track, even in the piano interludes (which will be the only "calm" notes you'll hear); assaults of electronic sounds, from the more classic ones passing through deafening whistles to pseudo-noises of pots and various objects (if you have imagination), with Ambient backgrounds; truly original and colorful titles, worthy of the best Aphex Twin.

By the way: at times it might remind you of the sounds of the artist raised in Cornwall, perhaps taken to certainly more extreme levels.

Take a look at the hidden spectrogram in the last track... a nice and curious surprise.

I dedicate it to my big cat.
