THE REVIEW

Aaron Funk (a.k.a. Venetian Snares) to me is a genius, but this time his umpteenth album has something wrong. The previous mini-album (the overwhelming "Infolepsy") was a work in his classic whirlwind and unpredictable style, but this LP seems to aim much higher and has our artist skittish, out of his comfort zone. Symphonic orchestras? Traces of opera? What's happening to him?? I fear he might have joined some psycho-socio-political sect, or even worse... he might have fallen in love!! Joking aside, for the first time since I started following him, there is a speech of his, a long one at that, about matters of current affairs. It's not his forte, in fact he stumbles on rhetoric and platitudes with delight... It all ends with the phrase "these are songs of love and pain". Well, maybe...

Recommended: for those who cannot give up on drill'n'bass, or whatever you want to call it, perhaps a little less sugar in your coffee but don't touch the drill'n'bass...
Not recommended: for those who don't know what this drill'n'... is

Summary by Bot

The review highlights Venetian Snares’ ambitious but uneven album, blending drill’n’bass with orchestral and operatic influences. While praised for creativity, the album steps outside the artist’s comfort zone, introducing political rhetoric and emotional themes that feel less natural. Recommended mainly for fans dedicated to the drill’n’bass style.
