Despite having listened to and almost immediately dismissed their first album, I decided to give a listen to the second album by Vendetta Red.
The first impression, if it means anything, is astonishing compared to what I expected.
They have completely abandoned the extreme and less melodic side, mainly tied to a very "rudimentary" punk that characterized their first album, and it feels like listening to a completely different band. The thing is, they play well... and all the melodies are different and very melodic, rich with riffs and screams that at a good volume cannot fail to evoke pleasant sensations.
The first three songs could all easily be singles, truly direct and very beautiful songs. The fourth song is beautiful but suffers, compared to the first three, from being "already heard"... Muse, first and foremost... this will recur in another song which, even though the structure is 100% "Muse-like," is truly wonderful, well-constructed, and will be perfect in any rock compilation you want to make (great castration).
The album flows without any drops... they don't completely abandon punk but make it more modern-Rock and mature, thereby distancing themselves from the countless imitators of new punk: Blink 182, Green Day, Rancid, Sum 141, Weezer, and the new emo. We are miles away from these bands.
One last note of credit is Zach Davidson's voice, which ranges from pure hard rock to melodic, delivering a falsetto that, to our ears, is truly irresistible. A really excellent production.
