The Velocity Girl were formed in Maryland (USA) in 1989. The band takes its name from a B-Side by Primal Scream and released their first official album in 1993 for Sub Pop.

The genre could be defined as indie pop-rock since the songs, while having a fairly traditional melodic-rhythmic structure, are played with very distorted guitars and end up approaching lo-fi sounds.

The contrast between instrumental noise and vocal sweetness present in eleven of the twelve tracks that make up the album ("Candy Apples" is an instrumental piece) is due to Sarah Shannon's high-pitched and very tuned voice. The opening track "Pretty Sister" is exemplary... A dreamy atmosphere pervades the five minutes of this perfect fusion between pop and noise. "Crazy Town" and "Audrey's Eyes" are the singles. "Copacetic", the song that gives the album its title, contains a fantastic vocal line. "Here Comes" is a slow-core ballad. "Pop Loser" is the most overtly pop song of the album but not to be snubbed for this reason. "Living Well" and "57 Waltz" are excellent and fully consistent with the sounds of the other tracks on Copacetic. To highlight the noise influences of Velocity Girl, there's A Chang, which starts with guitar feedback and then explodes into a disorienting melody that might remind one of Bloody Valentine. "Lisa Librarian" draws on punk aesthetics and is the only track sung by Archie Moore. "Catching Squirrels" provides a splendid close.

I recommend this album to all music listeners. It is really nice! Even if you didn't like the review, get it.
