Vasilij Vasil'evic Kandinskij

Sculptor, Painter or Photographer

Russian painter and art theorist (1866–1944), a pioneer of abstract art and author of On the Spiritual in Art.

Born 1866 in Moscow, Kandinsky became a leading figure in early abstract art, was a founder of Der Blaue Reiter, taught at the Bauhaus (1922–1933), moved to France in 1933 and died in 1944. He published On the Spiritual in Art (1910) and developed a theory assigning spiritual values to colors.

The reviews treat Kandinsky as a founding theorist of abstract art, emphasizing his 1910 essay On the Spiritual in Art and his color theory. Komposition VI is discussed as a peak of his abstract, musical approach. The content mixes historical context (Der Blaue Reiter, Expressionism) with literary references and formal analysis.
