"In I don't do what sells, I sell everything I do!" (Vasco Rossi)

Hello, people, I'm back! Yes, it's me, Demian, the one from the most infamous review in History, the one about J-Ax. I'm very happy that it got so much attention, either from people who listened to the album and didn't like it (which is understandable, tastes are tastes) or from people who judged the album without listening to it and the review without reading it (which is sad).

But despite everything, here I am again and here's another review, ready for you! Excited? No? Well, you're getting it anyway (ahahah!).

The album I want to talk about today is the latest work by an artist I grew up with and who has given me chills and great satisfaction: Vasco Rossi.

I started the review by responding with a phrase from Vasco himself to all those who, on this same site, accused him of crafting his songs just to sell. Now, we can debate that he's not what he used to be (for me, his last great album was "Gli spari sopra" in '93), after all, he's older now (although I assure you, in concert, he's orgasmic), but to brand Vasco as an Eros Ramazzotti stuffing his songs with clichés served with clever slow and catchy melodies to please as many average listeners as possible, no way! Vasco was, is, and always will be an artist.

His latest work is not as bad as you say. There's a great variety of topics and sounds. It ranges from dark ballads (IL MONDO CHE VORREI, DIMMELO TE) to more liberating ones (VIENI QUI, E ADESSO CHE TOCCA A ME) up to pure rock (GIOCA CON ME with Slash from Guns n' Roses on guitars and QUI SI FA LA STORIA, NON SOPPORTO). BASTA POCO, the first single released and a huge hit, is rock with many electronic nuances.

Very interesting is HO BISOGNO DI TE where Vasco repeats the successful experiment he did with TOFFEE in 1985, trying to convey his feelings with few words. However, here in my opinion, it's even better than in TOFFEE. Fewer purely musical parts that become boring over time and more repeated phrases.

The lyrics range from internal disappointment (IL MONDO CHE VORREI, NON SOPPORTO) to disappointment with society (BASTA POCO), down to the potential escape route in music (QUI SI FA LA STORIA) and the panic of not being able to find this escape route (DIMMELO TE). Women are not missing: the hormonal serenade very much in the style of Vasco, present from LA STREGA (LA DIVA DEL SABATO SERA) to ROCK'N'ROLL SHOW finds yet another chapter in GIOCA CON ME (by the way, the video is awesome). There's also room for romance (HO BISOGNO DI TE, NON VIVO SENZA TE) and for couple problems (VIENI QUI).

The gems in my opinion are two: E ADESSO CHE TOCCA A ME (the Topo Gigio quote has its meaning, I dare you to understand it) and DIMMELO TE.

The only real black sheep on the album is NON VIVO SENZA TE, a song that's incoherent with itself and nauseating.

The "you" and "me" omnipresent in the tracklist on the back of the album are a bit of an eyesore but who cares! For me, the work is worth FOUR STARS.

Good job Vasco, tell all the jealous ones to go to hell and continue to fill San Siro and all the other Italian stadiums, despite some aches, you're not doing so bad! This comes from someone who has all your songs!

Basta poco
a fare impressione
basta poco
basta andare in televisione
che la gente
subito ti riconosce per la strada
si fa presto
a montarsi la testa

e d’altronde è questa qui
la realtà di questa vita
ci si guarda solo fuori
ci si accontenta delle impressioni

ci si fotte allegramente
come se fosse niente
darei fuoco a casa tua
se mi passasse il mal di denti

e intanto il mondo rotola
e il mare sempre luccica

Basta poco
a fare bella figura
basta poco
basta esser buoni la domenica mattina
basta poco
per esser furbi
basta poco oh!
basta pensare che son tutti deficienti

e d’altronde è questa qua
la realtà di questa vita
di questa bella civiltà
così nobile e così antica

e intanto il mondo rotola
e il mare sempre luccica
domani è già domenica
e forse forse nevica

basta poco
per essere intolleranti
basta poco
basta esser solo un po’ ignoranti
basta poco
per non capire e scappare via
basta poco
perché ti dia fastidio uno pur che sia

e intanto il mondo rotola
e il mare sempre luccica
domani è già doenica
e forse forse nevica

Vasco Rossi is a great 'musical suggestionist' who aims straight at the heart of the average Italian who is happy to dream...

'Dimmelo te' is one of the best tracks of the entire work, an urgent and never exaggerated rock cry of despair.

I can’t accept this Vasco of 2008, those small, simple verses, but direct to the stomach like a punch, that made him unique and authentic for years, have been replaced by useless moans without meaning.

Despite star collaborations and packed stadiums, this album gives the sensation of listening to a Vasco that is not authentic and uninspired.

An industry that sells a lot, produces stellar profits, and puts mass products of good quality on the market.

Vasco, by now, is nothing but an industry... he defends the brand.

Before, the songs were born spontaneously, from the gut, almost a need... now no... they are thought out, they are put together... a bit cold... IS it his fault????... no way... our Blasco has grown up, has matured... it is normal that it has come to this...

In conclusion, the latest by Vasco is not so bad after all... much better than 'Buoni o Cattivi'... and then it’s Vasco.. he could even sing the alphabet and it would be successful!

the music that comes out is... of a material much more artificial than all of the above mentioned.

The slumber of reason produces monsters, and sells them for about €20.
