AA.VV: Vegetable Man project n.5 - October 2007

World premiere: the fifth volume of the most insane, futuristic, Pirandellian, Dadaist musical project of recent years has just been released by Yellow Shoes Records: cloning and endlessly covering the song "Vegetable Man" by the late Syd Barrett, to make it the song of the century, "the song of songs", the queen of the super charts show. Even just the magnificent cover by Brazilian Edgar Franco -reminds me of Urania, Karel Thole- introduces us to the Pascolian/Barrettian child within us - who babbles some demented little song under the chronic smile of the lord of time, who gives the hourglass of destiny, of logos, but also of the fiat lux towards entropy, of the countdown towards...

The vegetable man project is planetary, if not cosmic, they are already thinking of sending some copies into the universe - and bands and solo artists from all over the world participate, each with their own style, each intent on giving a personal touch to the super song: from Bulgarian choirs, to village festivals, to the most advanced electronics, to singing in the shower, to Monteverdi sonatas, to sound debris of Musichiere, and then grunge, progressive, punk, Dylan-folk, music from old Atari video games, even a piece of classical music without a singer: everyone can find a vegetative piece of plastic soul of themselves. 20 are the participants-20 interpretations-one long, crazy song, stranded in an eternal loop in the heart of many contemporary artists. Syd's star has gone out forever, but a pulsing bip bip continues and will continue traveling through the ether.

Syd Barrett digs deep within himself and finds ahead of time answers about the west adrift... born consume die... plastic floats in the dregs of the soul - long before Seveso and Chernobyl... it is dissolution of space-time, in the frozen sacred moment of the hand grabbing the credit card and indulging at the hypermarket checkout... how can you find a place to stay if everything is business, baby? if you already feel sold, if you have already been sold, but you don't even know to whom?... Luca Ferrari.

P.S. there is also a certain Rivoli among the songwriters. Thanks to Dario Antonetti for making it possible.
