It is the soundtrack of a harsh and ruthless movie, but it ends on a hopeful note. The movie (as can be deduced from the title itself) is about revenge and the feeling that gnaws at us from within as we try to conceive the act and gesture needed to accomplish it. And the sensation that the beautiful soundtrack gives us (credited to an unspecified "Mo Ho Baroque Ensemble"), classical music with clear Baroque influences, is one of jarring relaxation compared to the strong tones of the film, guiding us into the most hidden recesses of our mind.
There is a recurring theme, of course (it's a soundtrack, what did you expect...), musically explored in various aspects, but everything is permeated by that rarefied and natural sensation of simplicity that envelops us in the moments between sleep and wakefulness, as we await something that can definitively accompany us in the company of our dreams. The film is as worth watching as the soundtrack is worth listening to, which is never intrusive compared to the power of the images, representing the perfect complement for the whole duration.
This film is the third in a trilogy by director Chan-wook Park, focused precisely on the theme of revenge: the previous ones are "Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance" and "OldBoy". I also recommend (besides watching) listening to the musical theme of these other films, particularly "OldBoy", which, for those who will appreciate "Lady Vengeance", will be an additional pleasure to listen to. If you really don't want to buy the CD, the entire soundtrack can be downloaded for free from the official website in the link provided below in the "More Info" section.
