As a true fan of Bjork, I don't miss anything related to her: albums, singles, remixes, live performances... everything, even tributes like this one. When I found out that from the Stereogum website I could download for free an album of covers by prominent artists from the alternative scene on the songs of "Post", I couldn't resist.

Yet, instead of being a declaration of love towards an artist, this album almost turns out to be a mockery: the songs are poorly made, off-key, and over-the-top. It's disappointing. I, obsessed with Bjork, cannot resist:

How can I not scream in pain in front of a detestable and unbearable cover of "Army Of Me" by Liars? A true insult, where the qualitative difference between the cover and the original is truly significant. The passion, energy, the mix of techno and rock from the original is missing. Instead, the cover comes off as a lazy noise performance, with a lot of attitude.

Some songs even start off well, with original rhythms like the version of "The Modern Things" reimagined by High Places, but as soon as the voice comes in, there's a chasm: still lazy, horrible, overdone and burnt out.

"It's Oh So Quiet" by Bell is somewhat more successful, but the exceptional vocal talent of the Icelandic girl is sorely missed.

I stop the record. I've never heard a worse tribute than this. The only piece that truly stands out is the wonderful "Isobel" performed by the always magnificent Xiu Xiu, who embody a really experimental and unsettling dark poetry. A black sheep in a record to forget.
