The tribute (and what a tribute...), to a death metal band (and not thrash...) like Sepultura makes me drool with joy, even if I admit not being a big fan of metal because I'm too into Hardcore/Grind, but let me say that when I listen to this album, thousands of chills run up and down my spine... because such a hallucinatory and cynical album deserves to be reviewed and listened to, because death metal deserves... it just deserves it. And what's the best way to thank its birth??? A tribute to a great band of the genre, simply A-W-E-S-O-M-E! But after this introduction (if we want to call it that) I hype myself up to listen and review this album...
1 2 3 4 5 666 7 8 9 10! LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
The Tribute album opens with Sacementum, from what I understand from the cover, they seem to be a band quite inclined to carcassian death metal... although from my point of view there are evident influences of old-school Black Metal, like Possessed and Sarcofago, a terrifying, infernal, brutal cover, words elude me, the theme of the antichrist is depicted excellently with this song that I find wonderful, with that sound that seems recorded in a tomb, suitable for a film like Hostel (possibly part 2... that made me feel sick xD). Moving on with Deathwich (don't worry; I will never do a track by track review, no worries xD), they are an old-school death metal band from what I've gathered, especially from the voice that is so catacomb-like, and as usual recorded in a very wide space, or maybe it’s just an effect... It reminds me a lot of Death from Leprosy and Possessed from Seven Churches, stunning! Rich in simple but effective solos, like those of Sepultura... The singer of Deathwich also offers us his clean and whispered voice for a few seconds, which is beautiful because it's so deep and clear, but the form that holds more is the growl/scream. Then it continues in this way, a bit too monotonous but still very beautiful, in my opinion, there are quite a few tracks to be praised.
This album struck me quite a lot, for the power and nihilism expressed in music. Of course, there are also stunning tracks, like Troops of Doom done by the great Dimension Zero, I immediately liked it for its mid-tempo grind and black/death guitars, remarkable... it gives you chills, for how it was redone, hallucinatory! Yes, that's the right term to describe a cover of this kind, so heartfelt and violent that it impresses any fan of the band, maybe even those too inclined to listen to grind/hc like me, they're used to it (a little bit of modesty...) because they've heard it a thousand times. But I must admit it left me speechless, it struck me a lot. Then, of course, there would be the Lord Belial, which despite their cover not being applause-worthy, I find very beautiful, also because a black metal band doing a cover of a death metal band like Sepultura (and who else...), is to be praised.
Of course, there are also bands like Denial and Slavestate that I did not like at all, maybe because they covered their Nu-Metal songs, but they represent absolutely nothing to me, giving a two-score to these bands would lower the average, but I don't feel like it. Because listening to the covers by Children of Bodom and Defleshed, you are practically left shattered. Especially for Defleshed, truly heart-stopping... so important in this tribute album, an ultra-powerful and minimalist death metal, really to honor such a band.
In my opinion, I would say this album gets a solid five because it's really well done and very elaborate, although like all albums, there's always a flop in between. P.S.: Anyway forgive me a bit for the review because maybe I didn't do it divinely and maybe not even well, but I put my effort into it. I thank de-baser for the space offered. Cheers!
