Anyone familiar with the metal or rock world knows that many bands, from the most famous to the most obscure, often play various covers. These range from covers of rock and/or metal songs to reinterpretations of pieces from entirely different genres (pop, dance, etc.) in a metal and rock style.
This is largely a foreign phenomenon; in Italy, very few bands have done something like this, mainly because the chance to ruin beautiful songs is practically around the corner.
Therefore, this "Post Remixes" is an album that deviates a bit from all the compilations crowding the market. Produced by Valigetta Records, it is based on a simple idea that I think anyone could have had: Take some of the most famous dance tracks from the legendary 90s and have them reinterpreted by bands that have little to do with Dance, giving them the freedom to interpret them as they see fit. But will the album live up to the idea?
Not entirely. In fact, the selected tracks are all quite famous, and those who grew up (not me, but many did) with Hit Mania and Eurodance tapes will find themselves, by reading the Tracklist, in a dive into the past. The bands chosen, however, are very diverse (La Pertubazione, which I adore, Tre Allegri Ragazzi Morti, Julie's Haircut, Canadians, and others) and each wanted to put their stamp on this or that track.
It goes from a "Too Much Of Heaven" by Eiffel 65 reimagined in a ska style with South American touches by Numero 6 (certainly the most successful cover in my opinion) to an "Around The World" by Daft Punk redone in an ironic manner (but not entirely successful) by Tre Allegri Ragazzi Morti. Meanwhile, the first single ("The Rhythm of The Night" by Corona) is redone by Ex-Otago in an almost new wave style. In between is inserted a "very rock" version by Canadians of "Playground Love" by Air.
In essence, it's a good album that certainly stands out in the midst of all these similar summer compilations for its originality. It definitely could have been done better, but if, as the title suggests, there will be a Volume 2, I hope it can only improve. Recommended for anyone who wants something original.
