I will be brief.
Fourth album from this interesting semi-unknown Australian band, but active for almost 15 years -STOP-
Excellent prog digressions on a decidedly energetic power base, at times pleasantly overwhelming ----
Perhaps guilty of overuse of double bass drum, also packed with effects that give the impression of being constantly chased by a train -STOP-
Sometimes the keyboards are also overused, especially those symphonic keyboards that immediately reveal their distance from the sonic reality.
Decidedly aggressive is the opening of Embodiment, probably the best track of the album, as it perfectly and seamlessly doses all the band's qualities -STOP- True power bursts are Tyranny of Distance and Hope Among the heartless, with a curious intro sung in Italian (quote: 'Si muove con vento - in questo mondo - si vede la vita - nel buio cuore')
(who knows why - surely they had their reasons) ...---...
Varied but unconvincing Behind the open door, which starts with a 5/8 danceable and somewhat funny, promptly redeemed by Ashen Sky, which highlights the vocalist's singing skills, certainly not phenomenal but definitely fitting and at ease -STOP-
The ballad side (so to speak) emerges in One foot in both worlds -STOP- Finale in full Fates Warning style with A day of difference.
But let me say, Matheos & Alder are another story. -STOP-
An album rated as a 3.5, honest and honorable. It deserves a listen. -END
