Children, today I’m going to tell you the story of a very particular dealer, who has been operating legally for over 10 years on our personal computers and sells some really good stuff, top quality.
Mr. Gabe Newell, born in 1962, "slightly" overweight, with a perpetual smirk on his face: the leader of VALVE CORPORATION created, along with his friend Mike Harrington, one of the most famous video game distributions since 1998.
The first dose is unforgettable: HALF-LIFE is the shooter that revolutionizes the way of playing an FPS, making you fully immerse yourself in the protagonist without cutscenes and other nonsense, limiting everything only with small loadings. Half-Life managed to earn a certain fame, winning many awards including Game of the Year 1998 and let's remember that the same year saw the release of box office hits like Metal Gear Solid and Crash Bandicoot 3.
The hit repeats, but differently. Some students decide to take the game code, creating a MOD that would become legendary: Counter-Strike.
But the VALVE programmers saw potential in this mod, deciding to buy the rights and make it free for everyone. Thus was born one of the longest-lasting and most successful tactical shooters in gaming history.
The story continues to this day, with its ups and downs (though the former are always more numerous): in 2004, after a troubled development, Condition Zero was released by the original creators of the mod. The game was a failure for several reasons: too outdated graphics, the release of the definitive version of CS, the 1.6, a year before (and if I remember correctly before the creation of STEAM it was still free) and the imminent release of the giant Counter-Strike Source, developed and dealt by VALVE in the same year.
The addiction continues until Judgement Year, 2012. The Mayans, fortunately, got the prediction wrong. It was later discovered that the Mayan leaders on December 21 were playing the new Counter-Strike in a tournament on CS_aztec, until one of them shouted a loud "what a f***ing shot!" through the live stream headphones.
And the addiction continues, some on the 1.6, some on Source, while Putin and 90% of Russian players are on Global Offensive. Those crafty people at Valve saw it well back in '99, when everyone was going to discos listening to Gigi D'Agostino's hits, while you were still there in your dark room playing a game with your friends who obviously had nothing better to do that night.
But l'amour toujours will continue until there is a third world war, or another, even more powerful drug comes out: Half-Life 3!
And this, children, is the story of Counter-Strike, a little game that revolutionized online gaming, making it a real mass phenomenon, so much so that it has now become even an international level sport, gaining even more fame than before. In Korea, but also in America, CS tournaments are regularly organized, although on this topic (the sport) there would be more to discuss, but at that point, it becomes an editorial and what the heck, I just wanted to review my favorite shooter, so...
GRAPHICS/AUDIO
The latest uses the ever-praised Source graphics engine harnessed to the maximum of its power, which reveals itself in all its splendor even at lower resolutions, without weighing down weaker PCs too much and therefore light with minimal lag. The game's audio, on the other hand, is average compared to previous versions which had much more varied and well-reproduced sounds within the game. Nothing to complain about, a good 8/10 for the graphics, 7/10 for the sound.
GAMEPLAY
The heart of the game. The tactics and team collaboration make all the CS games real challenges that entertain and make the player chuckle, but in extreme situations will make him swear like a sailor. The characteristics of each weapon, such as recoil, average bullet power, or the f***ing weight (you run faster with the knife, I too discovered this very late...) are different for each, diversifying the different firefights that go to hell due to the sniper (the most difficult but also the most piercing weapon). It's obvious to say that if you hit an enemy on the head, it will be easier to take them out. The maps, then, are the best in tactics. They haven't changed much over the years, but they remain a challenge for both veterans and newbies. The prettiest one? And you even ask? DUST 2, obviously :-)
Let’s not forget the community servers which created alternative and hilarious modes like the " gun game" or " jailbreak", and there the fun is guaranteed too.
The main online missions are hostage rescue and bomb planting. And just with these two modes, a minimum of 30 hours of gameplay is guaranteed.
Final rating, therefore, 9.5/10 (applies to the entire series) and have a nice game because if you're lucky you even find Russian kids who don't know how to play and curse you in chat (traumatic and devastating experience)
Counter Strike, the most beloved light drug after cannabis.
Merry Christmas
