THE REVIEW

Autumn day at my place.

Low clouds swollen with rain adorn the borders of the mountains outside my house.

I have to stay holed up, closed within myself... in the cold.

I need distortion, violent, atrocious music.

And the Unsane come to my aid.

Two Peel Sessions recorded in the famous and shadowy English studios.

In 1991 and the following year.

Chris Spencer leads his tribal troop of exalted ones, possessed by the demon of distortion taken to the extreme.

25 minutes of blood, putrid, ominous, painful Noise-Rock.

Recordings that aim to be as raw and direct as possible; no kind of "adjustment" to a sound already disruptive, masterful, sharp, pounding back then.

A saturated voice, telling rotten, devious stories.

Scornful, annoying, uncontrollable guitars.

Few moments of respite; but it’s always an armed, "razor-sharp" truce.

The rest is boulders of indefinable, unquantifiable tonnage.

Total chaos in John Peel's studios, as very rarely had happened before... and will happen only a few times after.

Body Bomb is the only episode I want to recall and recommend listening to: like followers of the wild and sick Rollins Band. They violate their instruments, sodomize the guitar strings, break you into a thousand pieces, set you on fire.

Physical and mental pain, especially mental.

Now it's better, but only for a little while... I’ll have to restart with more music from Unsane.

What a band... what sounds... a beating frenzy...

Ad Maiora.
