THE REVIEW

One of the most ruthless covers I have ever seen.

If hatred could be perfectly put into music, that music would belong to Unsane.

Chris Spencer and company, after the release of their self-titled and devastating debut album, offer us this collection of singles released between 1989 and 1992.

Except for "Vandal-X", the rest of the tracklist consists of tracks that are hard to find (if not on this record).

Raw, ruthless, noisy tracks that represent that need to smash heads on concrete, that need to kill and feel the blood of others on their skin.

The most distinctive features remain the knife-sharp riffs like rusty knives and the immensely distorted voice of leader Chris Spencer, accompanied by the excellent rhythm section of the Shore/Ondras duo (R.I.P.). Tracks rarely exceed 4 minutes. Trademark.

They present us the desire for rebellion, trying to escape from the filth of New York neighborhoods with their music, traceable in the initial trio "Burn", "This Town", "Urge To Kill".

The sonic aggression of the deafening "Streetsweeper", "Four Sticks" and "El Mundo", on the other hand, tell us how this world and this life are increasingly degrading, smashing the bitter truth on a silver platter dirty with mud.

Probably if they hadn't made it as musicians, they would have become serial killers.

Those who know what Unsane are like also know their sound over the years has remained almost constant, but we're fine with that.
