THE REVIEW

Ahhh, John Garcia. What can I say about him, his magical past (Kyuss), his unmistakable voice: He would say Unida, his new project in the present! 8 tracks of honest and exquisite stoner rock, excellent production from Man's Ruin, and the revival of the great voice of Kyuss. Overall, Unida's sound is very heavy, sometimes a bit too heavy and repetitive, especially in the early tracks, but "Black Woman," "If Only Two," "Nervous," and "Dwarf It" - the latter part of the album - hold up well against stoner rock icons like QOTSA, Nebula, and Fu Manchu. Unfortunately, you won't find the psychedelic atmospheres that made us love J.Homme in Kyuss, but all in all, they're a good purchase to recommend to the nostalgic and, in any case, to lovers of the genre. djd

John Garcia returns with Unida delivering eight heavy stoner rock tracks showcasing his unmistakable voice. Despite some repetitiveness early on, the latter songs shine and hold their own against genre icons. While it lacks Kyuss's psychedelic feel, the album offers solid production and is highly recommended for fans and stoner rock enthusiasts.

This album is, in my humble opinion, one of the best releases in the stoner genre.

'Black Woman' is a breathless 5-minute run, so powerful and intense that you almost feel like you could sink your fingers into the flesh of this woman who turned John’s head.
