The Uncovered For Revenge come from Rome and, in my opinion, are the classic debut band, for better or worse. Like every newcomer, they try to give their best with the means at their disposal (those of a band presumably made up of students, hence limited), trying to play it safe by offering something they think they know well. In their case, hard rock and rock primarily. "Life" is an EP that benefits from that pop freshness that a female voice can provide, leaving the first single "Tomboy" with the task of beguiling those listeners who are more pop-oriented. It's a work that is, all in all, simple but direct enough to be listened to more than once, with tracks that seem to repeatedly evoke Evanescence and Halestorm, succeeding only partially. In short, great enthusiasm from the directly involved, focused mainly on giving a concrete form (at times perhaps a bit too scholastic) to a composition phase still to be defined but at least decent in terms of instrumental technique. It's a mini-album that, to be honest, could have brought them even more satisfaction if it had benefitted from a more polished production: this is indeed the biggest limitation of the tracks on "Life," namely sounds that often aren't up to par. When it comes to hard rock - as well as rock - one thinks of warm, powerful, enveloping sounds, something that captures you at first strike. In this case, the backbone structure (i.e., the songwriting phase) is there, what is definitely missing is the setting. That said, we finally close with the good vocal performance of the singer Giorgia Albanesi, capable of giving that extra touch to a band that, once overcoming the heavy step of debuting, will soon need to find that gear that can allow them to make that qualitative leap, which at the moment is still quite far off.
