While the Sanremo festival is in full swing, I dedicate my time to listening to the latest work of what is, in my most humble opinion, one of the best Italian singer-songwriters there has ever been, Umberto Maria Giardini. I have followed him since his solo debut when he used to go by the name Moltheni. His lyrics have always been filled with immense intensity, genuine poetry that touches the deepest recesses of the soul. In this Mondo E Antimondo, Umberto is particularly inspired. He tells us about a world that is disappearing, about ancient gestures and trades, about stories that never end too well but are sincere and real. He puts in his usual meticulous care; no word is used by chance but is placed there to achieve a very specific effect. Even Umberto's music shows evident, obsessive attention to detail, demonstrating how much the singer-songwriter from Marche is skilled in every aspect, even in how each instrument is played and how everything results in a perfect ensemble. I've always said it, and I reiterate it now: it is a shame that Artists like him do not receive the space they deserve. Yet I will hold onto Umberto dearly.
