....................An incredible regret. This is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about not having known them before. Už Jsme Doma (pronounced "ujisme doma"), a Czech band active for 30 years and led by the legendary Miroslav Wanek: a multi-instrumentalist with incomparable technique, who has been steering the band since 1985, the year of its foundation. Už Jsme Doma create a nearly unclassifiable genre, a mix between prog rock and punk. Two unapproachable genres that the band has managed to blend in an incredible way. This "Rybí Tuk," released in 2003, is one of the band's best albums in its "modern" era, slightly diverging from old albums like "Uši," "Hollywood," and "Pohádky ze Zapotřebí" (which in 2012 was re-recorded under the name "Pohádek ze Zapotřebí znovuudělané fortelné"). The lyrics, strictly in Czech, are all written by Miroslav himself (renowned in his homeland as a poet) and accompany the instrumental side of the record excellently: orchestrations, flutes, sometimes choppy, sometimes arpeggiated guitars, powerful bass, and simply atrocious drums that base their repertoire on technical skills and practically sudden tempo changes, moving to just extreme tempos (as in "Mlha," where in the final part a BLAST BEAT even starts!). And so the album goes by, through almost Jazz-like diversions, frantic orchestrations, a screaming rhythmic carpet (as in the already mentioned "Mlha" or especially "Rec," but above all beautiful instrumentals like the final "Proud" and especially the title track "Rybí Tuk," accompanied by Miroslav’s lamenting vocalizations. This record is simply an underrated masterpiece, too underrated by other countries outside the Czech Republic. Because if in the Czech Republic they are adored like deities, the rest of the world thinks slightly differently, even though Už Jsme Doma have performed concerts practically everywhere except in Italy (but what do you expect from a country where commercial success is proportional to the skill in sucking a dick or writing ignoble dramas for kids? Seriously), they have even been to Broadway. Moreover, in 2011 they released their seventh album "Jeskyne," which is an excellent album, but outside the Czech Republic, no one paid attention...I feel sorry for a band like this.
