The Profile

Ty Segall (born 1987) is an American musician, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist known for a prolific run of garage and psychedelic rock releases since the late 2000s. His records span scuzzy lo-fi assaults to hooky psych, often on Drag City, with a reputation for explosive live shows and constant collaboration.

California-born and exceptionally prolific; associated with projects and collaborators including Mikal Cronin, John Dwyer, Fuzz, Wand, Sic Alps, and GOGGS. Freedom's Goblin (Drag City, 2018) is celebrated; his self-titled 2008 debut is raw and lo-fi; Slaughterhouse is praised for chaotic, alive sound. Releases include the Marc Bolan tribute Ty Rex and a Ramones cover (“You Should Never Have Opened That Door”).

Three reviews paint Ty Segall as a fiercely prolific Californian force of garage and psych rock. Freedom’s Goblin is hailed, the 2008 debut is celebrated for lo-fi brutality, and Slaughterhouse is praised for its chaotic, alive sound. Collaborations and side projects abound, and the noise is the point. Loud, messy, and sincerely unpolished.
