The Turbonegro are back, to the immense surprise and great joy of their fans. The band, which disbanded in 1998 in Milan, has decided to reunite after a successful series of concerts held at several festivals in Northern Europe. The album, let me tell you right away, is a blast, and just as Elio e le Storie Tese said at the beginning of their debut album, watch out that it doesn't blow up your ass.
You're in for an explosive mix of Ziggy Stardust, Stooges, Beatles, Pistols, Kiss, and Motorhead with ultra rock and roll tracks accompanied by lyrics on the verge of absurdity (lethal in this sense is "Drenched In Blood"). Other gems of this work include the extraordinary Fuck The World, the overwhelming Sell Your Body To The Night (irresistible riffs and chorus), and the ironic Turbonegro Must Be Destroyed (invective against those who see Turbonegro as something negative, unable to understand the sarcasm and dark irony that the band conveys).
A decidedly entertaining album, although it must be noted that compared to previous works, the punk urgency that made the tracks even more overwhelming is missing, and especially Hank's voice is softer and gentler, in short, less aggressive, but I don't think this is such a serious issue given the overall quality of the album.
It should also be noted that finally, our guys have managed to create a decent cover thanks to the contribution of Klaus Voormann's pencil, the one who designed the cover of Revolver by the Beatles and is considered the fifth element of the Liverpool band. The mixing is done by Joe Barresi, one of the putative fathers of the stoner scene, having collaborated in the past with Kyuss and Fu Manchu. Burning Hearts produced the album, which also took care of reissuing their last two studio works. There is also a limited edition in (fake?) leather with a bonus DVD featuring live pieces and studio sessions.
There's also the official site of the album, where you can download some tracks.
