Everything begins with a dark background hum, the noise of helicopter blades whirring above our heads, and a trumpet blast that kicks off the dance; and the musicians in question are those flashy dudes from Turbonegro.
Seventh album for the Oslo band, an album dedicated to pure and unrestrained fun: a mix of punk, rock, garage (and a lot of irony) that goes by the name of death-punk.
The task of opening and closing the party belongs respectively to the gloomy (but only in the text!) "All My Friends Are Dead" and the threatening warning of "Final Warning": songs that in less than three minutes make us understand the concept of music from these six Norwegian lads: direct, brazen, arrogant music, a bit cheeky, but mostly enjoyable.
Inside, it ranges from the epic "City Of Satan", practically a Turbonegro version of "We Will Rock You" characterized by an intentionally ludicrous text, to more "relaxed" episodes like "Blow Me (Like The Wind)" or "High On The Crime", garnished with choruses as stupid as they are spot-on.
Turbonegro indeed play relatively simple things, but they play them with the attitude and professionalism of those who have been doing the rockstar gig for a while: standing out above all is lead guitarist Euroboy, capable of always delivering winning and convincing solos; in general, though, the whole group sounds nicely tight building throughout the length of the CD an imposing sound wall, except perhaps in the concluding tracks "Babylon Forever" and "Hot Stuff/Hot Shit" which overall result a bit bland.
In short, a great album to blast at full volume at any party where there are people eager to rock out and have some wholesome chaos.
