I didn't know TSOL since I've always been more into gothic bands. I liked softer groups... like The Cure and Depeche Mode, but occasionally I listened to a bit of punk. I listened to the Sex Pistols with the great Sid, but also the Misfits, who were way ahead of their time.
I knew nothing about them, but my love (thanks Johnny!! Also for the Christian Death CD!!) lent me their debut. Awesome! They're not as powerful as metalcore bands but still rock hard! They're fast but also slow where it's needed. They're a bit dark for being punk rock, and I think they listened to a lot of dark music.
"Sounds Of Laughter" is great and really grabs you. It's truly violent and maniacal. "Code Blue" is sicker and more psychopathic, but I think it's one of the best songs on this album. Try blasting "Dance With Me" (which is not the anthem of the rowdy crowd!!) and "I'm Tired Of Life", which seems very pessimistic and decadent to me... a bit like some of Baudelaire's poems.
This is a great punk and dark album suitable for those who are fed up with the usual shitty life and want to mosh. "Dance With Me" is a great discovery and will be for those who still stubbornly think that punk is made by Green Day or Avril Lavigne.
It's not like I know the band well... but I found out this is TSOL's debut and it was released in 1981. Through wiki, I discovered the members were these: Jack Grisham on vocals, Ron Emory on guitar, Mike Roche on bass, and Tod Barnes on drums!
Oh, one thing! T.S.O.L means True Sound Of Liberty!! The true sound of freedom!
Listen to it and let loose!!

This 'Dance With Me' is their first creation and can immediately be classified as a manifesto of the movement and perhaps a pinnacle of their career.
An album that over time has become a small great classic of punk, the more artistic kind if you will, steeped in the gothic imagery of horror films.
