Let's be quick here, there's not much to say. At least, I don't have much to say. Really, I'm not saying this because I want to "impress you" or make you think: "Here's yet another fool who thinks he's found the coolest band in the universe." Honestly, I don't know what to think of these Trophy Scars: it's as if they're in the middle, with triumph on their right and the abyss on their left.
I discovered them a couple of weeks ago purely by chance while browsing the web. At first listen, I was just there, stunned in front of the PC monitor. I wasn't understanding a thing. I tried listening to them in the car, on the stereo, in the bathroom—everywhere. But nothing. I went as far as getting the original (maybe having the artwork and lyrics in hand helps...) but the only conclusion I've managed to reach so far is a question: "How the heck did I manage without these guys all these years?" To make sense of the time you're wasting reading this, I can tell you that Trophy Scars sound exactly like if Tom Waits suddenly decided to form a post-hardcore band (and by post-hardcore, you can imagine whatever you like).
It's not that aggressive/violent type of music; let's say it's more "alternative": here you can hear some brass, there some violins, here blues rhythms, and there that drunk nocturnal jazzy sound that Waits loves so much (as you can see, after several listens, the situation still isn't entirely clear to me). I must say the final musical result is quite "Debaser" (besides the fact that it's also quite original, I can't think of similar artists).
Consider this page a simple recommendation. If you're there, bored of the usual browsing the web and tired of the daily routine, these Trophy Scars could be the 'shake-up' you were looking/waiting for. For me, it's really good stuff.
