EXTREME CASES.

In the common "prudish" imagination (full of prejudices), metallers are often seen as evil figures, dedicated to unlistenable music that mostly praises Satan and global, bloody evil (and why not?)...

When they're lucky, the poor metaller is labeled as a dirty, smelly, aggressive, and ignorant bar animal (drunk), always prone to senseless violence, and an instigator of fights in the name of some unknown pagan deity... Ask yourself... Who would like to be seen this way? Who would like to be labeled as a beast? Well... certainly the TrollFest would.

The TrollFest are a strange reality from the most "lumberjack" part of Norway chanting for drunken beer happiness and crazy in love with extreme and folk music. Young lads raised on bread and mead, with a keen and macabre sense of humor and an enviable ability to make fun of themselves. In short... The pride of Scandinavian folk/extreme music. Legend has it that they were formed in some rough tavern lost in the woods with the sole intention of having fun and indulging in the excessive use of “the golden double malt fermented substance” to which many of their songs are dedicated...

A band that awakens the wildest and most primitive instincts, that entertains and offends with its irreverence, that amazes with its uncouth party boorishness and satisfies the (not so) delicate listener like a fresh and frothy mug of beer. Raw and rustic, musically they propose a very successful blend of Thrash and Black Metal (especially in some vocal parts and the frenetic tempo changes), with varied, engaging, and compelling rhythms, perfectly blended with folk interludes and pagan party music, dominated by instruments such as mandolin, trumpet, accordion, tuba, harmonica, etc... in a festive and boorish cauldron that smells of sweat, grilled meat, and hops. A sound chaos that has its strong point in the vocal brilliance: drunken and intoxicating tavern choruses, grunts, screams, terrible laughs, growls, and screams that alternate and unite in an evocative and perfectly suitable gleeful image; growls and howls with a repertoire that would make a kennel envious (listen to the brilliant and compelling “Helvetes Hunden Garm” with its "barked" chorus to understand), and always and anyway the melody (and the crazy self-irony) as the least common denominator. Brilliant.

All the melodic folk-ish intros and outros manage the arduous task of personalizing the tracks with their sounds/noises/drunken lamentations/random words that give the entire album that touch of credibility and sympathy that makes everything less artificial and more friendly (just like a bar party among tipsy friends). Hardly comparable to other Folk-Metal bands, when listening to them, you still notice the influence, more or less veiled, of the masters FinnTroll that emerges between one drink and another within the album, as in the fast “Willkommen Folk Tell Drekka Fest!” (“Welcome people of the alcoholic feast”) with its soft, varied, and bold flavor; in the light and “clear” “Sagaen om Suttungs-Mjod” (“The saga of the mead”) or in the merry and overwhelming “Der Erste Krieg” (“The First War”) and “Du Kom For Seint...” (“You arrived late”) with their robust aroma and strong taste, double malt. But let's be clear... the TrollFest are absolutely not an attempt to plagiarize the aforementioned FinnTroll (like many others... Who said Korpiklaani?), but, even in situations of reference, like the mentioned songs or the violent and boorish “Die Urgammal Gebrau” (“The Ancestral Beer”), they manage to be so raw, "rambunctious", wild, and beer-loving to be absolutely personal and recognizable.

Among folk breaks, tavern melodies, and brutal references to high-level Scandinavian and German Thrash and Black Metal, the work results in a variety and sonic refinement that at first listen would seem ridiculous if compared to the final result... The album closes with “...Na Ma Du Drikka Mest!” (“Now You Must Drink More Than Everyone”), which seems recorded in a tavern during a party among disreputable and naturally tipsy people, and with its noise of crockery, mugs, and cheers, it perfectly renders the cheeky, cheerful, and beer-loving atmosphere that the TrollFest have repeatedly wanted to create. A carefree and gleeful music, fierce and fun, festive and enriched with brilliant and simple moments that draw a smile and encourage listening (and beer consumption). In short... An album for people accustomed to dealing with surly and mean individuals but also for those in extreme Scandinavian music seeking that rough and playful touch that too often is missing in the "philosophy" of black metal. Welcome People of the Alcoholic Feast...

Welcome to the TrollFest tavern, free entry but (absolutely) obligatory consumption.
