I recently finished listening to a great album.
An album of exceptionally high compositional level, which will undoubtedly remain in the history of metal, particularly Thrash.
But enough talking about "Master Of Puppets", let's discuss the latest work by Trivium, "Shogun".
I still don't understand why people have this crazy passion for Trivium. I listened to a few songs from the previous album and yes, they were nice, but nothing special. Not enough to call them "Next Big Thing". Because the Next Big Thing I make is in the bathroom after dinner.
"Shogun" is indeed an album that you can definitely listen to, but I find it full of arrogance and insipid, without a song that stands out in a significant way, it's all a blend of riffs, melodic singing and growl. And this, for a CD produced by a band presenting themselves as the new Metallica, is quite disappointing. Because at least Metallica has done something good.
But let's overlook their appearance and delve deep. Hey, wait a moment. There is no depth. And that's the problem. Despite the musicians being skilled and the riffs being extremely complex, "Shogun" does not convey any emotions to me, except for an annoying earache after listening to it all. And that's not good. And then, did we really need 11 tracks + 3 bonus tracks (including a horrible cover of "Iron Maiden")? Absolutely not. There are many filler tracks, such as "Insurrection" and "He who spawned the furies".
Now that I've listed what I think doesn't work, I'll add that there are also good songs (although, as I said, they lack interesting and memorable choruses) like "Shogun" and "Kirisute Gomen".
To conclude, "Shogun" undoubtedly touches adequacy, but does not surpass it nor bring anything new or exciting to the history of Trivium.
It seems we will have to wait for the "Next Big Thing".
