I wonder if the title of this CD wants to be a definition of the music of the power trio Trans VZ:
PROGRESS, because the songs seem to grow with each listen, you catch cues, forward marches, new wave digressions with punk at the forefront.
REGRESS, because the whole album collects important legacies while seeking a personal dimension, so the band cannot be accused of being yet another clone.
Fortunately, this is not the case: the Umbrian threesome, debuting on a long-play after two EPs, has clear ideas and the determination needed.
It mixes indie rock and melodies à la Violent Femmes ("Transavanguardia", a previously released track now improved here), folk vibes and post-punk loves -"Old Mountain Man, Jimmy (the Jukebox)"- playing at being Talking Heads ("Regress"), serves headache for dinner guessing the third way between Gossip and Devo ("Headache For Dinner").
Progress / Regress is a fitting formula for understanding the present without too many worries: a guitar, a bass, and a drum kit have not exhausted their potential, they are just looking for someone who knows how to use them to scream their desire to live.
