Trace was a Dutch progressive-rock trio formed around keyboardist Rick van der Linden. The original lineup featured Rick van der Linden (keyboards), Pierre van der Linden (drums) and Jaap van Eik (bass). Their self-titled debut appeared in 1974; the band released two further albums, Birds and The White Ladies, before effectively ceasing activity around 1978.

Rick van der Linden was previously active in Ekseption. Pierre van der Linden was known from Focus; Jaap van Eik was associated with Cuby + Blizzards. Ian Mosley appears on later Trace recordings and later became the drummer of Marillion. The group was signed by the Philips label. Rick van der Linden died in January 2006 (cardiac complications).

The review praises Trace as a Dutch prog supergroup led by keyboardist Rick van der Linden, highlighting virtuosic keyboards, solid interplay, and notable moments for bass and drums. The 1974 self-titled album mixes classical adaptations and freer progressive passages. Later albums feature Ian Mosley on drums; the group effectively ceased around 1978.

For:Fans of 1970s progressive rock, listeners of classical-influenced prog and keyboard-driven bands (ELP/Focus followers).

Even in the Netherlands, there was a prog supergroup: Trace, born from the will of the virtuoso classical/jazz keyboardist Rick Van Der Linden, who was previously active in Ekseption.
