I felt it was necessary to pay tribute to the greatest jazz harmonica player who recently passed away. Ne me quitte pas was the first LP that came into my hands and was subsequently purchased, the first of a series of albums that entered my personal list of the most cherished. The artist's greatness is evidenced by his countless collaborations with the greatest jazz composers, with whom he has, sometimes shyly, other times more tangibly, journeyed with his harmonica for over 60 years of career and history in some of the most beautiful live jazz recordings, in particular. This album is indeed a live recording, named after Brel's masterpiece, here in an instrumental version, with an absolutely heartrending and melancholic harmonica, immediately aggressive in the following Blue 'n Green by Miles Davis, and carefree in Stardust. Noteworthy on the album is a beautiful Autumn Leaves where Toots plays the guitar in an absolutely excellent manner. Thielemans passed away at the age of 94, but he had only retired from the stage three years earlier. Just to remember him!!
