Everyone listens to music for different reasons… some to follow trends… others to belong to a movement (musical or not) and some for art and to receive emotions… well. . the latter know Tool… "Lateralus" is a work that grabs you internally… digs into you depressive emotions… crushes your morale to the ground… not finding the voice "Depressive" in the list of musical genres, I just put a nice unclassifiable: )… I even read progressive metal… (but you are crazy… ) or hard rock.. but sincerely I can't find any adjective that can properly describe this album.
Now… it is useless to stand here and examine each song and add up… I leave this to you… I can only tell you what you can experience by listening to "Lateralus". An hour and more of music… depressing… I define it as inner suicide… a sense of sadness enters inside you… something dark… melancholic… extremely pessimistic… it reaches the peak with "Faaip De Oiad"… well… there you feel like taking the disc… throwing it… and hanging yourself…
But not for this do I define the "Tool" as mediocre… I think the skill of an artist is evaluated by how much they can transport and excite you… and I assure you they succeed… even too much…
"Lateralus" is an immense work (just look at all the mathematical references on syllables and Fibonacci etc etc… crazy stuff… ) deep and unsettling.. however, I can't give it 5 nor 4… it lacks something to be a true masterpiece.
"Lateralus is an album that speaks for itself, between cool and warm colors, between darkness and light."
"Danny Carey is truly capable of anything and changes the sound of his drums in an entirely exceptional manner from one song to another."
Tool is a group that undeniably has managed to create a style distinctly different from any other.
The atmospheres, the themes, the sounds, everything is perfect, and the listener can't help but be mesmerized by this CD.
"Lateralus opens up a new dimension to infinite rage, where the pieces fit together and where eternity grants the awareness that all this suffering is an illusion."
"Every word of the verses is syllabicated to perfectly mark the numbers of the Fibonacci sequence, through a journey of alienation and supreme detachment from one’s shell."
Once you get out of the store... you start opening the booklet and realize that alone it’s worth at least half the price.
The Patient... explodes into a reflective but extremely powerful chorus.
A million orgasms put on a music score wiping out all musical rules, extending or shortening bars, going from piano to fortissimo without warning.
I place Schism among the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.
