THE REVIEW

The solo careers of the Genesis members have mirrored the immense depth of its components, from the vastness of Gabriel, to the boundless and splendid discography of Hackett, to the commercial success of Collins' dignified pop, to the decent Rutherford alone or with the Mechanics...only Tony Banks, from this forge of ultra-talented musicians/composers, falls short, and in my opinion, except for a barely sufficient debut album, churns out several duds including this embarrassing Still, our fourth solo album dating 1991...a coherent album therefore with post "wind & wuthering" trash, namely the worst Genesis led by Tony and Phil. Yet an effort was made to gather a group of capable collaborators, given the presence of Fish on vocals, Nick Kershaw co-authoring with Banks on the sung tracks, the well-known and trusted Stuermer on guitar, Palladino and Collaiutta in the rhythm section (perhaps I forget someone...). However, the result is absolutely on the verge of embarrassment. Tony gifts us with squalid tunes, repetitive and simple keyboard passages far removed from Genesis' glory days, even with some parts copied from older performances. Truth be told, in my opinion, saved by the significant vocals, are the two episodes interpreted by Fish (Angel Face, and Another Murder of a Day). In short, a minor record, for a sublime keyboardist, who is likely much more prolific and stimulated in group work, highlighting the already cited limitations of a solo production that is absolutely anonymous...2

Summary by Bot

The review criticizes Tony Banks' 1991 solo album 'Still' as a weak and uninspired effort compared to his Genesis bandmates' solo work. Despite notable collaborators like Fish and Nick Kershaw, the album suffers from poor songwriting and repetitive keyboard parts. Only a few tracks benefit from strong vocals. Overall, the album is seen as an embarrassing and minor release in Banks' career.
