Members included Daniel Ash, Glenn Campling and Kevin Haskins. The project followed members' involvement with Bauhaus and preceded Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins' later work in Love And Rockets. Pop was released on Beggars Banquet in 1984.

The DeBaser review praises Tones Of Tail's sole full-length album Pop (1984) as an experimental mix of post-punk, synth-pop, danceable wave and traces of gothic rock. The reviewer highlights studio experimentation and sonic exploration by Daniel Ash and collaborators. The album is described as overlooked at release but artistically significant.
