If you thought you had reached the extreme with parentheses, if you thought the Vanzinas were the worst thing on earth, if you thought Steven Seagal and Ben Affleck were the most expressionless actors in history, you'll have to think again very soon.
Ok, where do I begin? Does anyone know this crap? I didn't even know who this Tommy Wiseau was, a Franco-American disaster who one fine day decides to make an independent film with 3 Chinese dollars. What came out?
This. The Room.
Famous in America and considered "the Citizen Kane of bad movies," it has achieved the status of a "Cult of the horrid," a drama that becomes a comedy!
The plot is very simple. A brawny guy named Johnny who works in a bank and doesn't get the promotion lives with his lover Lisa who, however, begins to lose interest in him (just watch how they do it XD) and starts desiring his friend Mark. He, initially indifferent, gradually plays along. But Johnny begins to have suspicions about Lisa after discovering that she lied to her mother, telling her that he hit her after drinking (with the mother's response "But Johnny doesn't drink!") until he uncovers her evil plan.
Ok, it may sound like a banal drama in the style of Beautiful, but behind this film, there are so many absurdities that make it almost comical!
- Some events repeat 5 or 6 times throughout the film. Lisa meeting her mother and Lisa having sex with Mark occur often and are all ridiculously identical (but we'll go into detail);
- Here are Lisa and her mother: Lisa tells her mother that she doesn't want to be with Johnny anymore, and her mother responds that he supports her, that he loves her, etc., while Mark goes to meet Lisa, she undresses and he always with that dumbfounded look like saying: EEHI, WHAT'S GOING ON? Idiot, she wants to have sex, right?
- In the film, subplots occur that then aren't mentioned anymore, like Lisa's mother saying she has breast cancer and Lisa WITH PERFECT INDIFFERENCE reassures her. The end.
Or when it's discovered that Denny, one of Johnny's friends, has drug problems, he is threatened by the dealer for money, and then the drug is never mentioned again throughout the film.
- Tommy Wiseau directed, starred in, wrote, and produced the film. WOW!
- The same Tommy Wiseau is one of the worst actors ever seen, but to better understand his acting skills, click on the link in the description!
There are other little things to say about it, but personally, I think it's better to end here. I just recommend taking a look at the link I'll post below to admire the beauty of this "masterpiece."
