First of all, who is Tom Morello? He was the guitarist for Rage Against the Machine and recently of Audioslave.
For those familiar with his technique, this album will be a surprise. Remember the flanger used along with a lot of other analog electronics, the harmonizer, and the octaver that allowed him very particular effects, even to the imitation of a DJ's record scratch? Well, take the 3 Audioslave albums and the 5 RATM ones and throw them away. Burn his Fender Telecaster and the Gibson Classic. Use all the electronics to make paperweights.
Now take this guitarist of Italian heritage with a slight Marxist communist inclination and give him a classical guitar. Have him play it as if he were by the sea with friends around a fire and you'll get "The Nightwatchman". Said like this, it might seem like the ugliest album imaginable. Instead, you can discover a few things; such as our guitarist's low and deep voice. A voice similar to that of the most glorious Boss.
These are politically engaged songs, like those not heard since the days of Robert Zimmerman. I discovered it thanks to friends on the Tube. I was at work looking for audio to listen to while working; and by chance, I saw that the good Morello had made a solo album. Never was a discovery more surprising. Very catchy songs and at the same time not trivial. I highly recommend listening to "One Man Revolution" and "The Road I Must Travel".
In Italy, I'm not sure if this album was released, but my 'mule' cousin had it.
Cheers!
