It had been ages since I heard such a powerful and gnarly stoner blaring out of my damn stereo speakers!!!
The Norwegians are the best (after the Japanese), and this time they've hit the bullseye at the first shot: let me present them to you: Papa Doom (vocals) El Doom (guitars) Doom Perignon (guitars) Herman Doom (bass) Fast Winston Doom (drums) People to love!!! To cuddle!!! Personally, I would take them all home, introduce them to my sister and parents, and invite them to dinner... all pork-based, drenched with rivers and rivers of wheat beers naturally, and why not, not to offend the guests of Do(o)m Perignon!!
But let's move on to the disc offered to us by these tipsy Norwegians with quite the heavy breath... "The Seats Are Soft But The Helmet Is Way Too Tight" is a grand blender of sounds, a mix of Stoner, Rock 'n' Roll, Grunge, Punk, Acid-Rock, a sprinkle of Extreme Psychotic and Hallucinatory Madness, and plenty of good taste for good music! I Adore Them!!!
The song that introduced me to them is precisely “Sins Of The Next Man” and as soon as the CD is revved up inside your player, it will pave you over in an explosive mixture of rock 'n' roll rhythms, of quite harmful gusts of filthy swamp wah-wah and fuzzy pedal sonic storms, with Papa Doom's dirty and damn vintage voice pulling the strings of the new (so to speak, this album is from 2000) stoner rock sensation!!
Other highly engaging stoner gut-twisting songs are placed both at the beginning (the legendary opening with the distorted harmonica of “Centerfold Blues”, or the electrifying “Ambulance Ride”... '70s ultradistorted psychedelia that becomes an explosive fuse set to blow in the final delirium) and at the end (I go crazy, in particular, for the 6 acid minutes of “Birthday Pony” and the skillfully punked-up Kyuss-esque riff of “He’s The Head”)...
... But there's a reason why these have become my new great legends to pass down!!! How the hell do you call a song “21st Century, Where Can I Get a Fuckable Little Grungette” ???? These guys really are out there!!! Each one is better than the last, not to mention that one of the guitarists has an uncanny resemblance to Joshua Homme (which makes me love them even more!) .
Guys, make sure you listen to it at all costs... there's less and less good music around, and these guys in the stoner and related fields are hard to beat!! They're crazy and they know it... that's their strength!!! Just for the cover, I'd give them a full 5! “21st Century, Where Can I Get a Fuckable Little Grungette” ???? Damn, what a title, how awesome, how cool..
We need to Organize!!! Bring them here to Italy!!! Who is willing to follow me in this crazy endeavor?
