The absolute debut of the Californians Thrice dates back to 1998 with the EP First Impressions.
Among the seven songs, there is also an early version of "T&C" which will later appear on their first album Identity Crisis. In this first EP, there isn't much of the massive experimentation that distinguishes their excellent career. You can find some hints of the Identity Crisis sound, the basis being that of a Skate Punk/Melodic Hc launched at breakneck speed, in classic Californian style, with a very fast drum and fast, melodic riffs balancing between Post-Hardcore and Californian Punk Rock.
The voice of the then eighteen-year-old Dustin Kensrue already stands out, contributing to distinguish the band from other punk rock groups of the time, not better, but nonetheless different and original. The production is not very good, but everything still flows excellently.
The conclusion is that an inexperienced band doesn't equate to a mediocre one, as we've seen what Thrice has done after this.
