THE REVIEW

Three second kiss - Jail Legnano 04-05-07

A strange triangle: Bologna, Catania, Rome

A triangle that, however, has a center of gravity: Steve Albini. Because under that brand there is always something interesting that encourages you to take the risk of purchasing without necessarily having to refer to the sacred monsters of Nirvana, Sonic Youth, or Pixies. From this triangle, Uzeda, the first indie band to come into his favor, provides human material to TSK with the addition of new drummer Sacha Tilotta (son of Agostino Tilotta and Giovanna Cacciola) replacing Lorenzo Fortini. The mind goes to Shellac of At Action Park, but also to some things of Jesus Lizard, yet without any attempt of sterile emulation: they remain unique, strong thanks to their slurred musical lines from Sergio Carlini's guitar and the pulsating bass of Massimo Mosca.

There isn't much audience at Jail (a shame), but those who are there are attentive and involved. The Bologna band doesn't limit themselves: 45 intense minutes, absolutely perfect and physical, where noise blends with experimentation and acid blues, focused on every passage as if they were doing technical rehearsals for a "new broadcast," which will see them at the Red House Recordings in Senigallia, once again working in the studio with Albini this summer. A band of great stature and maturity, one of those bands that if you haven't heard them before, at the end of the concert you will surely find yourself looking for the CD stand.

Yes, there is truly something to think about if we have in Italy bands that might remain in a basement if someone didn't decide to make the effort to offer, even through their own name and artistic credibility, the right tools of media distribution. Who knows, perhaps in the future they might open up to collaborations with artists far from their world and sensitivity as Zu did: surely the contamination that would result could only do good for the expressive growth that is certainly mature and consolidated enough to question itself further and find new horizons.
