Masterpiece, sublime, exceptional, fantastic, splendid, album of the year... how on earth to define this debut by "This Town Needs Guns"? Words have lost their meaning, many of you will pass over this page lightly and leave it as if nothing happened... what a shame, I can't allow that to happen!

Let’s start with the genre: Experimental Math/Rock with various influences, including post/rock, jazz, and pop. To give an idea, occasionally Explosions The Sky might come to mind, while at other moments, it feels like listening to an "experimental" version of Sunny Day Real Estate... this is definitely not a record for "fans of..." or for "those who listen to..." ... here we're dealing with a higher level... this album is for those who love music, period. Certainly, guitar technique enthusiasts will appreciate the divine level of execution and composition, just as those who enjoy playing "behind the skins" like me will see the drummer as a model to aspire to, but melodies as simple and pure as those on this album will touch anyone's heart.

After all, just listening to the opener "26 Is Dancier Than 4" is enough to understand what I'm talking about... between the swirling webs of guitars and the drums that now have us riding a carpet of frenetic rolls, now lull us with calming and reassuring tempos... simply exciting.

At the end of the track, the temptation to put it on loop for a month will be strong, but I invite you to continue listening because the rest is just as good... I'm sure you'll find yourself thinking "okay, they can't do better than this, the next track will be mediocre..." only to find yourself routinely contradicted (and with your jaw on the floor)...

I conclude by saying that:

- my review doesn’t do the album any justice
- get this album and listen to it
- goodnight
