Many times, thanks to the internet, we come across some musical gems that have the advantage – compared to much of the major music (and not only) we hear today – of truly offering something new and courageous. This is the case with This Town Needs Guns, a young English mathrock band that has been gaining a lot of attention lately, achieving a certain cult status thanks to the internet and social networking.

"Animals" is the first full-length album by This Town Needs Guns, following various EPs and splits produced with the support of independent labels.

The band's trademark is the fusion of unique guitar melodies based on arpeggios, tapping, and six-string experiments, with a mathrock groove from the rhythm section, characterized by frequent time changes and unique beats.

The songs on "Animals", all named after different animals, might seem a bit repetitive after a while, but the way in which the songs manage to be simple and fluid despite the complexity of the arrangements and execution is incredible and undoubtedly one of the most fascinating aspects of the album and the band's music.

Without a doubt one of the best albums that I've come across in recent years, it is deservedly reaching wider audiences, after recent collaborations with Sargent House (which released the album in the USA) and Zankyo (for the Japanese edition).
