“Leaves in Autumn” is the second EP by Thirsting For Revenge, a metalcore band from Caserta active since 2011. Unlike many others, this band has sought in its artistic proposal to embrace a segment of that genre which was perhaps the quickest to disappear in the early post-2000 period: screamo. Listening to this EP, you indeed get the distinct feeling of having to deal with bands like Atreyu, From First To Last, and Escape The Fate, where musically there is little to do with breakdowns and things that are generally “core oriented”, thus approaching a sound more oriented towards alternative rock. Their proposal is certainly bold compared to those who do nothing but retrace the deeds of today's famous faces, in some ways I would say apt especially given the good execution of screamo in the vocal part. The vocals are the focal point of the entire work, where the usual screamo/melodic dualism provides a more than good rendition if thought of in a sound context that is at times suffocating and where electronics have made their appearance. The only downside is the sonic chaos occasionally generated by these musicians, who sometimes seem to lose control of the game, heading towards something that feels quite improvisational. That said, I remain convinced of the good potential of these Thirsting For Revenge, perhaps still a bit stylistically raw but at least bold in seeking paths that are not currently trodden by hundreds of other bands.
