THE REVIEW

We are in London at the Power House in 1989, from the dark stage a voice: LADIES AND GENTLEMEN... Thee Hypnotics.

We are in an infernal cauldron where the damned souls of the STOOGES, MC5, BLUE CHER, HENDRIX, are a single entity. Leading them is JIM JONES, protégé of IGGY POP. With such a name, what else could he do but doom himself on stage.

The Hypnotics assault, tear apart the soul of primordial rhythm and blues, listen to how they ravage B.B. KING's "ROCK ME BABY", playing a boisterous, fiercely violent Garage Rock with the blues at its heart and Raw Power as its guiding spirit. Simply rock shrouded in infernal distortions and constant feedback. A music without frills, it doesn't need words. It only asks to be heard, and welcome to the rock's circle of the damned.

As far as I'm concerned, this hell is paradise.

For the record, we are talking about the first mini album of Thee Hypnotics, "LIVE'R THAN GOD", recorded live in 1989. In the subsequent studio albums, they couldn't recapture the energy of this burning debut. With "SOUL; GLITTER & SIN" they added new elements to their sound with good results. But the soul of the band, which I saw in Rome at their beginnings, I don't remember in which venue, is all in this live album.
