There are records that reveal their magic from the cover: the artwork often reveals the overall spirit of the album, the obsessions and manias of a band, their aesthetic and sound choices. And in this case, with the Zutons, a Liverpool group that started on the heels of the Coral only to quickly surpass them, it's exactly like that.

The cover is designed in a comic book style, with clear references to American B-movies of the 1950s (War of the Worlds, Blob), and the warm colors of the cover are the same as those of the album, which in 12 tracks evokes, without mimicking, the Grateful Dead of American Beauty (Moons And Horror Shows), Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac (the brilliant attack of Pressure Point), the English jazz-rock of the late 1960s, and the acid psychedelia of the West Coast during the full summer of love.

From an instrumental point of view, in addition to the excellent voice, the presence of a saxophonist gives depth to the sound and enriches its nuances, the groove created by the rhythm section (bass and drums) is absolutely captivating, but it's the lead guitar that stands out, with short but absolutely devastating interludes or solos for both imagination and precision.

To love!!!

If you try to close your eyes while listening to this album, you’ll find yourself catapulted into a luxury club in Prohibition-era Chicago.

‘Who Killed The Zutons’ is, in my opinion, a brilliant album starting from its bizarre title.
