"The stone that you builders rejected has become the cornerstone"
The wind blows, fiercely, then gently, caresses the face, ruffles the hair, confuses ideas, mixes the clouds up in the sky, moves the dust that obscures thoughts, lifts memories, and blurs the horizon, while everything flows, and flows, the soul floats, languidly, lightly dazed, almost cuddled.
The Cocteau Twins and Mogwai blend in instrumental pieces full of feedback, a visionary and post-rock sound, a surprise, pure noise and bright symphonies, abrasive, the atmospheres of the Jesus and Mary Chain traverse the sounds of My Bloody Valentine and Goodspeed! you Black Emperor... suddenly a guitar that reminds of Johnny Marr (The end of the pier) shifts the atmosphere and cheers, only to return to sadness with a rare voice, as if it were Ian Curtis or Jim Morrison... Moving.
The twilight light perfectly conveys what this album can offer... "The end of the pier" is the debut album (2003) of Workhouse, an Oxford-based band little known but with great potential. An album that is a sonic ecstasy, an intense photograph of the past with a light that looks to the future, a jewel, a diamond that lights up the sky, capable of leaving us stunned in front of reality.
The sky of Workhouse is full of clouds, but also sun rays, those who fear lightning should refrain...
